The Svalbard site provides a way to display and report data about weather and snow conditions in a region in Norway. The only data input method for an individual to use that I found is a web form to report avalanches in the region. It provides a checklist for information about location (requires GPS coordinates in WSG84 format), type of avalanche (using layman's terms), and trigger. Also general weather and ground conditions can be reported. Data are also being reported from sensors about temperature, wind, snow depth, etc.
- narrowly circumscribed to a specific area
- not clear what research could be done
- doable by a small group with a small amount of funding
Might be an example of how the layman can report facts about language, for instance, specific speaker communities.
